Yithethe maAfrika - Our Company

Yithethe maAfrika – also known as YMA – is a black owned public relations, strategic media and communication management company with offices in Nelson Mandela Bay and Buffalo City, Eastern Cape, South Africa. We offer strategic communications planning and implementation, specializing in total media solutions for government, media, tourism, nation-building, sport, economic and community development. This is achieved through production of publications and news, media strategizing and planning, public relations, project management, client image and branding, events, marketing and design across the print, broadcast and digital domains.

Our vision is to be the most passionate, creative, competent and trusted media strategists, public relations and communications management company in the Eastern Cape by offering total media solutions to the public and private sector.

The name, Yithethe maAfrika, is derived from the language of the local Xhosa people, meaning, “tell it, people of Africa”. The company builds on the success and credibility of its two share-holders Nomawethu Mhlaba, Eastern Cape businesswoman and daughter of the first democratic Premier in the province the late Dr Raymond Mhlaba; and journalist, columnist and former newspaper editor, Traci Mackie.

Both were nurtured and educated in the Eastern Cape, known for its warm and friendly people. Real relationships are key to doing business here and the partnership between Mackie (CEO) and Mhlaba (Executive Director) is founded on a friendship, focused on Yithethe maAfrika’s vision and endorsed with professionalism.

Yithethe was started in 1999 as a close corporation, but re-registered as a proprietary limited company in 2006 when Mhlaba joined the company as a majority shareholder.
